On Tuesday I ran across a used copy of “Portrait of Thelonius” by Bud Powell at Record Exchange and, on a whim, bought it. I got home and listened to it. Great stuff, really well recorded. Especially “Monk’s Mood.” It was only after listening to it that I realized, looking at the liner notes, that the album was recorded in Paris on December 17th, 1961, exactly 41 years to the day that I was listening to it.
