I Know You’ve Heard It Before But … (or: Mom! Dad! It’s evil! Don’t touch it!)

Rob is grumpy today. Why is Rob grumpy today? Because Rob is at the office, doing the work of two people. Why is Rob doing the work of two people? Because Person #2 has not been hired yet, and until Person #2 is hired, Rob must continue to do the work of two people. When will Person #2 be hired? Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies. Between the irritating switchover to the new software (which has been a largely nonfuntional switchover at this point because things were not set up correctly beforehand), the aforementioned job vacancy, and an additional job vacancy not previously mentioned, Rob’s boss has his hands full and is much too distracted to think about interviewing job candidates right now. Even though Rob gave him several excellent resumes from friends who are trustworthy and eager to start working. Rob has a nasty habit of being too EFFICIENT at his job, which of course means that everyone else in the office (albeit subconsciously, perhaps) gives Rob additional tasks. This doesn’t pay. So perhaps if Rob “floundered” a bit more, the hiring of Person #2 would become more of a priority. Spending time by surfing and writing on LJ is a good way for Rob to be less efficient.

This is a shame, because last night Andy & I went to Hydrate for drinks and met ezurbub and his boyfriend Tristan. And it was so great! We all got along really well, had plenty to talk about, and just really enjoyed meeting each other. $1 drink night is the best. I hope we all get to hang out again soon. I shared with them my idea of organizing a bi-weekly group of guys to get together to watch a movie on DVD and talk. As Andy & I walked home, we both agreed that it was really wondeful to meet another couple of guys who are intelligent, articulate, interesting, and not full of themselves. And the fact that they actually want to spend time with us is a super ego boost as well. (Stop blushing).
Why is there presently this yucky emotional divide between work and non-work for Rob? Rhetorical question.
