Pretty damn good weekend. Thanksgiving Day was wonderful. Andy’s dad and uncle really appreciated being with us. It was nice, just us four. And by some strange blessing, all the food was READY at the same time! The turkey was so tender and moist that it was falling right off the bone! And for the first time, I made gravy from scratch by myself! The stuffing was scrumptious. The wine was lovely. And I knew that the day had gone well right after I had my second slice of apple pie and I was so stuffed that I couldn’t move for awhile. That’s the test, right?
A weekend of movies. We watched “Eureka” (directed by Nicholas Roeg; gorgeously shot and overheated to the point of rediculousness, lots of naked Theresa Russell), “They Who Step On The Tiger’s Tail” (dir. by Kurosawa; set-bound and dull, with subtitle translation so bad as to be incoherent), “The Big Red One” (dir. by Samuel Fuller; amazing, gritty, action-packed WWII movie with great stuff from Lee Marvin and Mark Hamill), and “Ragtime” (dir. by Milos Forman; engrossing and superbly entertaining, with a riveting turn by James Cagney, in his last role).
Applied for 2 weeks during the Spring Session at the Ledig House, a writer’s colony in upstate New York. It’s a secluded spot on hundreds of acres in the Hudson Valley; you write during the day and at night you hang out with all the other writers and with visiting professional authors/book people who come in from NYC. Everyone gets their own private room and all meals are provided. Wow, I guess it’s a long shot, but I hope I get in. I could easily finish the whole first draft of “Tiny Apocalypse” and even start revising probably. I won’t hear until late January I think.
Andy and I had a chat about Xmas last night. He feels somewhat behind on things, and isn’t mentally prepared for it yet. Whereas I’m already in a festive mood. And he feels this Festive Mood is a little intimidating. I told him to calm down and take it easy and not to get stressed out. I said that the last thing I want to be is pushy. I promised not to talk about Xmas for awhile. I want him to Get Happy in his own way, his own time. Christmas IS his favorite time of year. But Andy has his own timetable for these things.
My Xmas cards are done and I’m 90% done with shopping …
