Another Interview

Questions by thejeremyshow

1. In your livejournal bio, part of the first sentence says “i do not
like madonna but i DO like judy garland”, how do you feel not liking
madonna and liking judy garland defines you?

Well, I always thought that one of the stereotypical ways that gay men
are defined (both by straight people and by themselves) is by their
supposed love & devotion to these 2 icons. I guess I find it
interesting (and think other people might find it interesting) that
it’s not Madonna that I like, it’s Judy. Arguably the more “old
fashioned” and “queeny” of the two (culturally speaking). Either
that or it’s my lame attempt at irony.

2. When is the last time you threw up? Describe the story of how and
why it happened, the contents of what was thrown up, etc.

I think I was 12 and had the flu. I don’t remember specifics, except
that it occurred in the upstairs bathroom, which had a weird slanting
wall and bright yellow/cream checkered wallpaper. It’s silly but I’m
sort of proud of the fact that I haven’t hurled for 17 years.

3. If you have been to Disneyworld what was your favorite ride and
why? If you haven’t been, what do you think your favorite ride would
have been and why?

Very funny (inside joke). I like “It’s A Small World After All,”
simultaneously the most optimistic and melancholy ride in the whole
park: a naive view of what the world could be but definitely isn’t.

4. Oprah has something called the “O List” in which she lists things
she loves right now, where to buy them and what their prices are. Give
me the “R List.” List five of your favorite things, their prices and
where to get them.

“Cadbury Royal Dark Chocolate Bar,” $1.65, Walgreens.
“Coppola Claret 2002,” $11.99/BOTTLE, on sale at Cost Plus World Market.
“Final Edition, Fall 2004” a 1-issue only magazine edited by Wallace
Shawn, $10, amazon.com
“Love’s A Real Thing: World Psychedelic Classics 3,” $11.99, on sale at Tower Records
“The Phantom of Liberty” DVD, $20.96, preorder at amazon.com for release on 5/24

5. What is your favorite memory of me? This question is worth 10 points.

I really liked that evening after work when I met you at the Gold Star. It was the first time I’d been there. And we sat at the bar and I had gimlets and you had vodka cranberrys and we just talked for awhile. Somehow it felt earthy, sophisticated, casual and grown-up all at the same time. Maybe it was the alcohol but we both seemed to be very witty conversationalists for the moment.
