1. What is your favourite word in the english language?
Aaargh. Hmm. At the moment I’ve been using “tiny” a lot in my writing. Dunno why. The most AMUSING word in the English language is “tempestuous.”
2. Do you have specific aspirations as a writer? If so what are they?
I would love to write (or not write, as the muse dictates) full-time one day. I would love not to have a “day job.” That means a lot of work. Also, one day I would like to write a screenplay that gets produced. That would be really satisfying.
3. If America continues along its present political course and gets very bad would you stay and fight for a better country or would you expat. If you did leave where would you go?
Barring a move to Canada, or a fabulous multi-city existence between Chicago and Paris (one may fantasize), I think I would probably stay in the US. I would fight. For better or worse, I’ll always be an American. Just because you hate what something has become doesn’t mean you have the freedom to run away. If it means anything to you, you have to stay where you are and resist. YOu have to think about what it means to you and take action.
4. How many states have you visited in the US? (visited means that you have spent at least a little bit of time there and had a good look around…just spending the night, driving through, or being at thier airport doesn’t count)
Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wyoming. So that’s 24. If I get to Portland this summer, that’ll be 25.
5. When Josh and I first met there was a moment in a hotel room in IND in which I knew that our interaction and any relationship that followed would be wonderful and different from any other I had up to that point. Was there a moment like that for you and Andy? Describe….
It was a moment I’ve described before, when Andy came back to Chicago from his solo retreat in Indianapolis to face the crumbling away of his relationship with Ken, the emminent necessity of moving into an apartment of his own, the fact that for him everything would be different from that point onwards. And he spent the weekend with me. What I was going through (breaking up with Zach, etc.) consisted of things I had more or less been through already with different guys. It was the fact that Andy’s life was about to be RADICALLY different because of ME that made me realize that our relationship would be something completely new.
