A Deep Breath

Well … I did it.

After work on Wednesday, June 21st, I’m flying out to Denver. At the airport I’ll pick up my rental car and then drive to my grandmother’s in Lakewood. I’ll spend all day Thursday and Friday with her, and also my folks for some of the time in there somewhere. Saturday morning I’ll get up early, have breakfast with Rosemary (my grandmother) and then head due south in the car. Approximately six hours later (factoring in refueling stops and a bite to eat) I’ll arrive in Ranchos de Taos where my friend Rob lives, basically out in the middle of the freakin’ desert. I’ll spend the rest of Saturday and Sunday with him. Enjoying the sand. Then, Monday morning I’ll get up and we’ll drive to Albuquerque (it’s about an hour and a half away). I’ll try and find some of the places from my childhood and hopefully have lunch at La Salida, where we went to eat a lot of the time. About 3 o’clock I’ll say goodbye to Rob, drop off the rental car at the Albuquerque airport and then catch a plane to Denver, make a transfer, and finally get back to Chicago. Late Monday night, June 26th. Then I’ll have the day off from work on Tuesday in order to recover and relax.

Gee it all sounds kinda insane now that I’ve written it out. But I just couldn’t pass up the chance to do all this stuff, see all these things, do some driving, have a pseudowild adventure. Who knows when I’ll ever be able to again.
