Okay. Feeling much better today.
We watched “Eros” last night, and though in many ways it was a bit too languid it was also very refreshing somehow. The Soderbergh segemnt was slight but somehow thoroughly amusing. I’d pay to watch Alan Arkin and Robert Downey, Jr. read a newspaper out loud. The bonus on the DVD was an additional short film by Antonioni called “Michaelangelo Eye to Eye.” It’s a deceptively simple “wordless monologue” that consists of him examining several scupltures of Michaelaneglo, both with his eyes and by running his fingers over them. It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s beautiful.
So after work I’m running some errands and then meeting Andy’s dad at Union Station. I’m pretty excited about it. The other day I referred to him as my “surrogate dad.” I have infinitely more interests in common with him that with my real dad (sigh). I mean, tomorrow we’re going to spend several hours together at the Jazz Mart while Andy’s at work. And I’ll show off the new surround system. I have just the right Kenton track lined up . Awesome.
And of course he can exasperate me too, just like my real parents. I think if we can navigate ourselves through the absurd heatwave this weekened we’ll have a blast. As I’ve said before he was supposed to come visit us in March. Ahhhh there’s nothing like SPS (Steadham Procrastination Syndrome). Andy is also afflicted by it. (He’ll probably slap me for mentioning it, which is itself a symptom of OSS: Overly Sensitive Syndrome).
Perhaps I can convince them to go see “Prairie Home Companion” on Sunday.
