So tomorrow I’m flying to Connecticut to visit my friend Jessi at Yale. She’s wrapping up her last year in the master’s directing program, and I’m going to see her staging of Ionesco’s “The Last Tenant” at Yale Summer Cabaret.
I really don’t know what to expect when it comes to Yale. Although I have a hunch that it’s going to look like every other old, sprawling university campus. But with a little more ivy on the walls. I guess that at this point in my life, schools just don’t impress me very much anymore. It’s all about money, power. Andy’s dealings with Dominican (as well as Jessi’s anecdotes about Yale) have firmly convinced me of the truth of what David Byrne once said: “School is an expensive way to meet like-minded people and that’s all you can expect.”
However I’m really really excited to see her direct an Ionesco play. He’s still an untouchable godlike figure to me, and this will be the first time I’ve seen her direct a play that I’m already familiar with.
The trip itself will be a quick in/out basically. Thanks to priceline, I’m saving a bit of money and wasting a lot of time (layovers, etc.) Oh well. I’ll have my iPod and several books.
Tonight when Andy gets off work we’re going to see “A Scanner Darkly” at Piper’s Alley and then have dinner at Las Pinatas. Bliss
