Thanksgiving/Gluttony

Andy and I decided that we’re just going to roast a turkey breast this year instead of doing awhole bird. An entire bird is just too much. We’re still going to make all our favorite sides: mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy (which i can make from scratch ’cause I’ve been practicing!), glazed carrots. Maybe more. And of course dutch apple pie for dessert. I think I’ll get some Coppola pinot noir to have with dinner.

Gluttony: yesterday we went to Tower Records (in the process of liquidation) and went wild. A lot of Christmas shopping has been accomplished. And a whole lot of goodies for myself. I think I’ll go back once more in a few weeks, just before they (presumably) close. They can’t say open for much longer. It’s definitely getting picked over. Lots of treasures still to be had though.

Andy bought Star Trek: The Motion Picture and so last night we watched that. It’s a new cut that’s actually better. Amazing. I’m usually totally against the George Lucas-ization of taking an existing film and “making it better,” but in this case it really worked. It makes more sense, doesn’t feel sluggish, and the new sfx are subtle and mesh very well with the original elements. And the new sound mix is the bee’s knees.
