A new series: for each movie I see from now on, I’ll post 3 things about it that stick in my brain. A way to help me remember it later.
The Story of Three Loves [1953]
1. Ethel Barrymore looks like a dowager drag queen when shot from a certain angle.
2. Pier Angeli lying in the hospital bed, faded, barely alive, radiant, the grey wool blanket drawn cleanly across her chest, arms stretched out before her on top of the blanket. In the last medium-wide shot of her you can see a fly crawling around on her right hand.
3. Kirk Douglas. Impossibly muscular. His scary, flaming red tights. Doing his own stunts on the trapeze, everyone in the theater holding their breath at certain moments.
