1. Tarr’s technique is still dazzling, but without any characters that are recognizably human it verges on being just a hollow exercise.
2. Tilda Swinton, dubbed into Hungarian, emoting deeply: all for naught.
3. Best sequence: the nightwatchman methodically emptying the suitcase of money so that the damp bills can be dried on top of his stove.
