3 things about Blake Edwards’ THE GREAT RACE

The Great Race [1965]

1. In Professor Fate’s house: a stuffed moose. The front half is one room and the rear half is in another, on the other side of the wall.
2. Hezekiah waltzing with a matronly woman, both with very serious expressions on their faces.
3. Fate stares down a dog and says, “I hate you.”

O wow, I can’t tell you how many times I watched this movie as a kid. It was on the same tape as It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. So the two will always be connected for me. This is the first time I’ve seen it on DVD, in widescreen. The VHS was chopped of course.

There will never be another scene like the pie fight.
