About Schmidt [2002]
1. He’s lying in the bathtub, a writing tray near his chest, his right arm draped over the side of the tub. It’s a visual quote of "The Death of Marat" by Jacques-Louis David. I have no idea what it means, or why it’s there, but somehow it’s an electrifying moment.
2. The name of the movie on the marquee: Sideways.
3. I always remember this as one of the last contemporary movies to show someone accompanying passengers all the way to the gate of the plane to say goodbye. It’s a small thing. But you can’t do that anymore.
