If the purpose of this movie was collect every cliché and myth of 1960’s and illustrate them using every hackneyed music video technique of the 1990’s, then Across the Universe can be only described as a stunning achievement. If however the aim was to capture any fragment of what makes the Beatles’ music so great, or to accurately portray any genuine human beings whatsoever, then this movie is nothing less than putrescent offal. I suppose that as long as listening to American Idol wannabes slaughter dozens of beloved songs is how you get your kicks, you could possibly enjoy it. Otherwise, for God’s sake, think of the children and just put on Revolver.
