3 things about François Ozon’s UNDER THE SAND

Under the Sand [2000]

1. She’s alone, but there are two cups on the tea tray.
2. The hands slowly withdraw. A pucker in her dress.
3. “You belong in an insane asylum, not a rest home,” she says.
The old woman replies, “You’ll be in one before me.”

Seeing it again, I believe this might be Ozon’s best film. So simple, so masterfully calibrated. Stunning.
