1. Doc looks down at the chessboard. “I’m gettin’ my ass kicked today.”
“Who are you playing?”
“Myself.”
2. A one-on-one conversation at the other end of the room. A woman flipping through the jukebox. Sitting alone, he silently observes everything going on around him in the bar.
3. He turns the blank notebook around in his hands. “Ah ha.” He takes a pen from his pocket and begins to write.
