Writer’s block has made me cranky. I’ve written sentence after sentence of crap. It’s on days like this that I fear I’ve lost, once and for all, my ability to articulate.

3 things about Michael Apted’s 49 UP

49 Up [2005]

1. Tony’s summer home in Spain. An unexpected turn. Eerie for me since I read J.G. Ballard’s Cocaine Nights so recently, which is about a British vacation ex-pat community in Spain.
2. “What’s it like, being a grandfather?” “What’s it like? It’s bloody easy.”
3. Neil biking through the gorgeous landscape. The footage of cloud shadows moving across the green, rocky hills.

Death Race [2008]

1. Dialog I never thought I’d hear Joan Allen say: “Cocksucker! Fuck with me and we’ll see who shits on the sidewalk.”
2. Slow motion: car swerves to a stop in a cloud of dust, door opens, she’s in mini-boots and she gets out and she’s wearing Daisy Dukes. And yes, she hason sunglasses. And she takes them off.
3. At the end of the film there’s a “don’t try this at home, kids” disclaimer. Really.

Today is my last day of 32. Tomorrow is 33. I have the day off and I still haven’t decided what I want to do.

My allergies have made themselves known and are torturing me. Yes, I am currently taking fexofenadine, thanks for asking. But at times it feels like an invisible onion has been stuffed into my sinus cavity. This is around the time every year when I begin praying for the first frost, summer be damned. My head is fuzzy.

So apparently I have a bit of anxiety about turning 33.

3 things about Andy Warhol’s EATING TOO FAST

Eating Too Fast [1966]

1. The object on the wall and to the right initially looks like the top of an air conditioning duct. But later you can clearly see it’s a photograph of a woman, tacked to the wall. He rubs it with his shoulder late in the film and it comes down.
2. When the film begins there is a half glass of wine left. When he finishes that, he moves on to taking sips from a glass of water. After the halfway mark he also takes a few swallows from a small glass of what appears to be whiskey.
3. Does he cum at the end? I really don’t think he does. There’s a look of resigned boredom on his face.
