1. The tobacco promptly falls out of his cigarette.
2. O’Brien looks at Winston wearily and says, “They got me a long time ago.”
3. He moves the knight; a few moments later, he puts it back again.

    But more important, did you like it? What did you think of it in relation to Orwell’s book? I thought it was a fascinating adaptation. The feel was the same at least. have you seen the adaptation from the 50s?

      Oh yes, I’ve seen it many times. I think it’s just about perfect. Especially Richard Burton and John Hurt. Surprisingly, perhaps, I think it’s less bleak than the novel. Somehow one’s imagination is always worse than a visualization when it comes to that stuff. I haven’t seen the version from the 50’s yet; it sounds pretty misguided, but I’m still curious about it.

        Yeah, the 50s version is rather average — but I still think it’s worth watching. Definitely less bleak than this one. I like to view adaptions as exactly what the word implies, adaptations — and also, the book as inspiration. So I generally try to judge the film separate from the book — but yes, the 50s film is a tad off in tone, etc…
