Behind the sounds of ROY’S WORLD.

Over the weekend I had the immense pleasure of working with a brilliant ensemble of musicians to lay down the score for Roy’s World. This is the first time I’ve ever been able to collaborate in this way: working with a composer and a band to shape the tone and mood of the music during the early stages of a project. The recording sessions were two of the most exciting days of my life. When a tune really comes together and the whole band is firing on all cylinders, it’s an exquisite pleasure that’s quite unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced creatively. And in addition to that, recording at Electrical Audio was the most comfortable and hassle-free experience you can imagine. It’s easy to see why it’s such a legendary studio.

(L to R): Jason Adasiewicz (vibes, leader); Greg Norman (engineer); Josh Berman (cornet); Hamid Drake (drums, percussion); Jon Doyle (saxes, clarinet); Joshua Abrams (bass); Rob Christopher. Outside Electrical Audio, Chicago, 19 February 2017.

I am so freaking excited to find out what happens when I combine this music with the stories of Barry Gifford. I just know it’s going to be dynamite.
