This song has been my jam of 2019. So when I recently picked up a bottle of The Funk and successfully incorporated its bodacious eccentricity into a cocktail, naming this new mixture was a no brainer. Sip this one slowly. It’s hypnotic. Much like Nohelani Cypriano’s amazing album, which you should track down as soon as you can.

This is the only the second time I’ve seen this movie. The first time, I was a senior in high school and didn’t have a clue that within a year I’d be moving to Chicago. I went to see it at the Westminster Mall multiplex with a group of friends one night. Afterwards, as was our custom, we hung out at a Village Inn for awhile. I ordered black coffee and hashbrowns, the latter of which I doused with ketchup. My bowels protested the combination: the horror movie, the food, the coffee.
