The interview did not go as planned.

[Some freewriting from a few weeks ago.]

The interview did not go as planned. That is to say, she didn’t get the job. That is to say, she couldn’t pay the rent and was therefore kicked out of the apartment by her snooty roommate. That is to say, she found herself moving back in with her ex, who was only too happy to take her back on the condition that each evening ended with an hour or so of animalistic rutting on the narrow bed. But she let all these bad vies drift away from her. Once her ship came in, she told herself, this would all just be part of some amusing anecdote to be told at a cocktail party thrown in Robin Leach’s mansion. For now, she made sandwiches out of the ever-present loaf of Wonder Bread to be found in George’s fridge, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the crusts trimmed off. Having a plentiful store of empty days in front of her, she saved the crusts in an old bread bag which she had kept for this purpose and went to the park across the street in the afternoon, feeding the crusts of bread to the ugly black swans who lunged at her fearlessly.
