If you want to know what a Zombie is all about, you could do a lot worse than watch this outstanding video.

3 Things

Enter the Dragon [1973]

1. The spear stuck into the middle of the mirror. The wallpanel turning around and a round.
2. Jim Kelly’s six-pack abs. Or are they eight-pack? Yeah, there were a lot of visible abs in this movie.
3. The way Bruce Lee says “emotional expression.”

3 things about Thomas McCarthy’s THE VISITOR

The Visitor [2007]

1. The surprised look on Walter’s face when Mouna orders a glass of wine. The way he takes a big gulp of his wine after he’s opened up to her.
2. The last image of the film, truly memorable: Walter is seated on a bench in the subway, dressed in his college professor clothes, pounding away at the drum. Just as it would be in real life, some of the other people in the subway notice him while others completely ignore him. The trains roll past and he keeps drumming.
3. Tarek sings and drums; an upright bass and a saxophone round out the band. A basement club in NYC.

3 things about Richard Fleischer’s FANTASTIC VOYAGE

Fantastic Voyage [1966]

1. The bald skull marked off into sections with the miniature radar equipment rotating around it.
2. The capillary wall, resembling a batik cloth.
3. It’s 20 minutes into the movie before Raquel Welch even gets a closeup! She’s fine in the movie but all in all she isn’t given very much to do.

Honest to God, when Andy woke me up just now I was in the middle of a dream: Boris Karloff and I went to a beatnik coffeehouse, and we had just sat down and were looking over menus of what music we wanted to order. To listen to. My greeting to everyone upon entering the establishment was, “Like, hi.” Boris and I had walked there arm in arm. This was 1968 Boris Karloff and so he was a little unsteady on his feet, although still very full of life and humor. He seemed very excited that I was going to the trouble of taking him out for coffee.

I foresee a trek out there fairly soon. Yum.

I’m back from NYC and already unpacked. So I missed MoMa but I did catch the Murakami show at the Brooklyn Museum yesterday before catching my train. Pretty awesome.

Will I even try catching up now that I’m back? Well, maybe a little. But my vacation isn’t over yet; I don’t start the new job till Monday.

Well, it’s off to NYC! I’mleaving my laptop behind and instead taking lots of books and notebooks. Right now I’m the middle of reading Pictures at a Revolution and it’s fascinating stuff. Anyhow, I’ll be off the grid until next Thursday. Try not to be jealous: my plan is to hit all three major tiki bars in NYC, go to MoMa to see the Jazz exhibit and the Brooklyn Museum to see the Murakami show, and just laze about. Or something. The Amtrak portion of the trip should be interesting.
