3 things about Lucretia Martel’s LA CIENAGA

La Ciénaga [2001]

1. In the shower, she wipes the dirt and mud towards the drain with her feet.
2. “She got everything there, from pencils to tennis shoes.”
3. Various people squashed together on beds.

Lucretia Martel astonishingly captures almost everything I hate most about summertime. The heat and humidity; the noise; the irritating boisterousness of people; the way most food is disgusting; its slothful, listless, claustrophobic, apathy.
